Woman, 22, gets virus that leaves her bedbound, has flight cancelled and gets hit by a motorbike on five-day Ibiza holiday from hell
IT is a truth universally acknowledged that no girly holiday to Ibiza would be complete without a few unexpected disasters along the way - trust us, if you return unscathed then you've done it wrong.
But while we've all had our fair share of airport security mishaps and malfunctioning matching bikinis, one woman unfortunately suffered a triple whammy of disasters on a recent girls getaway - and we can't imagine she's in any rush to return anytime soon.
Kate McClean, 22, from Manchester, embarked on a trip to Ibiza with two of her best girlfriends in May.
Although Kate was riding high after only paying £170 for her flights, things quickly turned sour after her first night when she contracted a virus which left her bedbound.
She explained to : "I was being sick and couldn't stand up all though the night until 8am. I was told I caught a serious virus so couldn't eat or drink for three days."
In other words, Kate's partying plans for the holiday were effectively scrapped as she was told to stay in the holiday room to recover - all the while, she couldn't even keep any food or water down without throwing up.
Needless to say, Kate was pretty anxious to get home after spending the week watching her mates having a great time... which is where this story (sadly) gets even worse.
After a four hour wait at the airport, Kate and her mates were told their flights had been cancelled.
What's more, their new booking wasn't until three days later AND featured a stop off in Madrid.
Now that they were effectively stuck in Ibiza, the group set out to find a hotel that would take them - but and their second priority was tracking down a supermarket that sold Pot Noodle to eat before a night out.
"As I went to cross the road, a motorbike hit me which sent me flying in the air," Kate explained. "I got carried to my room by people who saw it happen and after medical attention, I was told I had broken three ribs."
By this point, Kate's medical insurance had run out as she was supposed to have already arrived home in Manchester and was left with no option but to remain bedbound.
Although she managed to wangle a flight to Leeds a day earlier, Kate then had to get a train back to Manchester and confessed she was "hobbling" the whole way home.
Six months on, Kate has begun to see the funny side of her disastrous trip - although her mates joke they'll never invite her away with them again.
She added: "One drama after another with me, it's horrendous."
