BANK Holiday revellers donned fancy dress at the booze-fuelled Otley Run as they kicked off celebrations for the long weekend.

Hundreds of rowdy drinkers donned animals prints and colourful outfits on Saturday as they took to the streets for a pub crawl with pals.

The two-and-a-half-mile rite of passage happens multiple times a year.

Super Mario, Luigi, Toad and Princess Peach were out in force as they went to all 17 venues despite the grey conditions.

But despite some wet and windy weather, it didn't dampen pub-goers' spirits.

Others who came dressed as Toy Story characters were all smiles as they headed from bar to bar.

The historic Otley Run starts at Woodies pub in Far Headingley and finishes at The Dry Dock at the edge of the city centre.

The aim of the game is to have a drink in each of the 17 pubs along the way.

One group of girls were spotted sporting cowboy hats and colourful dresses for the West Yorkshire drinkathon.

While a pack of lads bowled in dressed as Scooby Doo characters as they got into their Bank Holiday bonanza.

Participants begin at Woodies before swilling snifters at 15 other watering holes during the challenge, which takes place several times a year.

Drinkers sup a final brew at the aptly named Dry Dock - a narrow boat-turned-pub.

Two pals were seen dressed in outfits from The Incredibles as they took to Leeds for an unholy amount of drinking on Saturday.

Angels, aliens and super villains alike were also spotted in the excited crowds as they enjoyed the beginning of the three-day weekend.

It comes as Storm Lilian caused chaos at the Leeds Festival after tents were blown away and urinals demolished.

Stages were also closed for the entire weekend due to safety fears.

Many ticket holders left the Bramham Park site when the storm hit on Friday.

A van had its windows smashed by a falling wall.

Organisers were forced to close the BBC Radio 1, Aux and Chevron stages due to the conditions but it was hoped the Chevron stage could be reopened.

One festival-goer described her experience as the “worst day ever” after her group’s tent had been destroyed.

Declan Donnelly, an engineering production operator from Manchester, said he had seen tents abandoned by people who had decided to go hom

He said his group “had to hold on to our tent for about one to two hours as well as double peg it as when the gusts hit it was nearly flying off”.

The 20-year-old added: “It seems to have calmed down now but there’s lots of tents ripped, collapsed and destroyed, with a fair few tents left by people who have chosen to go home.”
