Who is Malala Yousafzai? Pakistani activist and Nobel Prize winner who’s going to Oxford University
The young woman has achieved more than others would in their entire lives

SHE has been honoured with the Nobel Peace Prize, met the Queen and become an outspoken advocate for female education.
So what do we know about the inspiring young woman Malala Yousafzai, who has already achieved far more than most at just 20 years of age?
Who is Malala Yousafzai?
Malala is a young woman from Pakistan who has been a long-term advocate for females to receive an education.
Born in Mingora, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, she started her own blog under a pseudonym at the age of 11, discussing what life was like under the Taliban occupation of Swat - including the exclusion of young women from attending school.
She attracted worldwide attention after a New York Times documentary focused on her life, even being nominated for the International Children's Peace Prize by activist Desmond Tutu.
But the attention was not all positive, with the young woman targeted with death threats, including by the Taliban, for speaking out.
On October 9, 2012, Malala, then 15, was shot in the head by a masked gunman.
Despite her devastating injuries, the young woman survived.
On March 29 the 20-year-old Nobel laureate returned to Pakistan for a four-day visit.
She told an audience in the prime minister's office of how she had longed to be back in the capital Islamabad or Karachi even as she promoted girls' education around the globe.
"I was always dreaming for the past five years, that I can come to my country, whenever I was travelling abroad," she said, to applause.
"Finally, I am here."
Why was she awarded the Nobel Prize?
The attack on Malala attracted widespread condemnation, including from the then US President Barack Obama, the UN and Britain's Foreign Secretary.
A campaign to support the young woman spread across the world, using the phrase "I am Malala".
In 2014 and aged just 17, Malala was a co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, receiving the award for her against the suppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to education.
In a statement, the committee stated: "Despite her youth, Malala Yousafzay has already fought for several years for the right of girls to education, and has shown by example that children and young people, too, can contribute to improving their own situations.
"This she has done under the most dangerous circumstances.
"Through her heroic struggle she has become a leading spokesperson for girls' rights to education."
What university will she be attending?
Malala, who now lives in Britain, announced in August 2017 that she had been accepted into Oxford University.
The young woman shared the message she received from the prestigious university on Twitter.
The student is is now studying politics, philosophy and economics and is gearing up for exams.
She has also joined the Oxford Union - but is steering clear of student politics. She is a member of a uni cricket team.
