Cant get better

Eric Cantona says that his FA Cup final goal against rivals Liverpool in 1996 was his best ever strike

Frenchman unleashed a volley in the 96 showpiece at Wembley against foes as the Red Devils went on to glory

ERIC CANTONA scored some incredible goals in his career but the Frenchman reckons the best ever was his winner against Liverpool in the 1996 FA Cup final.

As a corner was swung in a poor punched clearance by keeper David James fell to Cantona who volleyed it into the net and wheeled away in celebration.

United's rivals held their heads in their hands at what proved to be the winning goal - Alex Ferguson had done it again.

Speaking during a meet and greet session with fans in Kuala Lumpar Cantona said: "The goal in the FA Cup final against Liverpool is my greatest ever. I volleyed home the winning goal."

"The 1992-93 season was special, as United finished as league champions for the first time in 26 years.

"And the following season, we won it with many young players in the team.

"You should ask Liverpool fans whether I ever had a poor game against their team. United always won."

Times have certainly changed since the Cantona days, especially now Ferguson has retired with United employing their third manager since his departure in the summer.

Jose Mourinho has a frosty relationship with Liverpool and their fans since the 2005 League Cup final, when Mourinho shushed Liverpool supporters after Steven Gerrard scored an own goal late on.

There was also an altercation between Mourinho and Gerrard during the match in 2014 when the then Reds captain infamously slipped and gifted Demba Ba the opener.

That rivalry is sure to become even more heated now he is United manager and the two are due to face off at Anfield on Monday, October 17.

Both clubs will be eager to grab all 3 points to stay in touch at the top however a win is all the more important for Mourinho's men having dropped 2 points at home to Stoke City yesterday.
