A tournament official was forced to step in after the creature was seen slithering around the green.

The snake made its way past a golf ball as it meandered through the course.

American player Shaun Micheel watched on as the snake interrupted his round.

As the incident unfolded, ESPN commentators said: "We got some action going on here.

"Shaun Micheel's not scared... that volunteer's not scared at all."

As the snake appeared to make a move towards the tournament official, the commentators continued: "Ooh that's what we've got to avoid.

"Now we've got a problem, now it's riled up.

"Is he going right for the ball? Nope... he's got his sights on something better than a white ball."

Responding to the remarkable incident, a fan wrote on social media: "Very large snake wandering across the #USPGA fairway Everyone rightly treating it with respect."

While a second admitted: "the course difficulty level just increased. my nerves would be shot. lol."
