Hatton’s Open 2019 bid falters after two duff shots in the rough on hole called Calamity Corner

TYRRELL HATTON'S Open bid suffered a serious setback when he needed two shots to hit his ball just two inches on a hole called 'Calamity Corner'.
The 27-year-old from High Wycombe was cruising along at five under in the second round when disaster struck on the 236 yard par 3 16th.
On one of the hardest holes at Royal Portrush, Hatton sprayed his tee shot right into some thick and juicy rough.
He hacked at the grass with his second stroke but the ball was nowhere to be seen.
And the same happened on his third attempt.
It wasn't until the world No 43's fourth shot that the ball finally popped out and onto the green.
And the 20ft putt he holed for double bogey must have felt like a par, even though he saw his challenge for a first Major title falter on a hole he slammed for being "too harsh".
Hothead Hatton, who did well to keep his cool after the blow-up, said: "I just leaked it [tee shot] a little bit on the wind.
"Tried my best to move the ball, and couldn't move it. It's pretty tough. I don't think it's a good hole anyway.

"And it's maybe a bit too harsh if you can't actually move the golf ball when you're more than seven yards right of the edge of the green.
"The ball moved maybe an inch each time. It just didn't come out at all and I ended up hitting it harder and harder.
"The rough is pretty brutal around the whole golf course, to be honest.
"Obviously the aim is to stay out of it. Sadly I didn't do that and I got punished."
