The tiny English pub marooned on a peninsula – that you reach by boat

A SMALL UK pub sitting right on a canal is popular with visitors looking for a drink away from the noise of a busy town centre.
The beer garden of a countryside boozer is one of the best places to spend a warm summer's day.
And one really popular spot is The Turf in Exeter, Devon, which was included in 's list of great British pubs that can't be reached by car.
The Turf is found along the Exeter Canal, overlooking the Exe Estuary next to a lock.
The Grade-II listed Georgian pub sits on its own private peninsula and can be reached only by foot, bike or boat.
The pub's owners label it as "an iconic Grade II listed pub in an extraordinary waterside location".
They also boast of their "uninterrupted panoramic views" that "stretch across the outstanding natural beauty of the Exeter canal, River Exe Estuary and Powderham Estate".
The area surrounding The Turf is an area of outstanding natural beauty, as well as a special protection area, meaning it's a protected area for bird life, making it a great place to watch birds with a pint outside.
However, that may be difficult on warmer days, with the pub having an area that permits guests to cook their own barbecues in its vast beer garden.
This provides a great family atmosphere, with kids and dogs welcome as well.
However, for those who would rather not cook for themselves, there's a menu in the pub serving locally-sourced food, alongside an extensive wine menu.
Wanderlust wrote: "It doesn’t have any road access. Visitors are advised to park just down the river at Powderham Church and walk (around 15 minutes) or cycle to the Turf Hotel instead. Alternatively, take a ferry from Topsham.
"The pub has a large beer garden and offers a ‘cook-your-own’ BBQ in the summer. Its own menu includes locally sourced produce, including seafood.
"Inside, it is family and dog-friendly, foregoing carpet for pine strip floors – perfect for muddy kids and muddy paws."
For anyone who doesn't fancy the walk back along the canal away from the pub, there will soon be the option to spend the night at The Turf.
Its website promises that accommodation will be available this summer, after refurbishment works.

It reads: "The Turf’s boutique hotel is due to reopen in summer 2024 following extensive renovation.
"Our individual and uniquely designed rooms will offer extraordinary views over the River Exe Estuary, Exeter Canal and sweeping countryside of Powderham estate."
Overall, the pub has a score of 4.5/5 on Google Reviews, with one writing: "Brilliant location, superb food, excellent service. Be advised you will probably need to walk some distance to get there but well worth it."
Another added: "Definition of a hidden gem, accessed by boat for extra fun! The Seafood Trio was delicious, with local cider. Very friendly staff and fast service, highly recommended!"
Meanwhile, this pub beer garden overlooks a three-mile long beach.
And these pubs all have huge beer gardens for hot sunny days.
