BBC Breakfast reporter Jayne McCubin was left mortified after a hugely embarrassing blunder on the BBC morning show.

The star was live at Blackburn Rovers FC where she was marking the Lionesses making it all the way to the final of the World Cup.

On today's edition of the BBC show, Jon Kay and Sally Nugent brought viewers the day's headlines and reflected on the sporting action over the weekend.

They delved into the background of the Lionesses as they celebrated their achievement of reaching the final.

As a result, Jayne had headed out to Blackburn where three of the England players - Ella Toone, Keira Walsh, and Georgia Stanway - had developed their skills at a young age.

Sally was keen to find out more about the club and how they had marked the huge final from Jayne but it was clear that the reporter was blissfully unaware that she was live on air.

Instead of responding to the questions, Jayne could be seen and heard chatting with the young players about their team and making conversation with them as opposed to bringing her report to the nation.

Jayne then appeared to get into position but stayed unusually silent as Sally was forced to repeat: "Morning Jayne!"

A bewildered Jayne this time heard the star as she said: "Oh! Good morning to you!" Are we live on television?"

Sally then simply added: "You're on!"

Reeling from the blunder, Jayne began to laugh as she told the hosts in the studio, "I'm so sorry," before she continued on with her report.

Despite attempting to put a positive spin on England's devastating loss, some fans were left bored of the Beeb's consistent coverage as they went online to beg the show to "move on".

Writing on social media, one fan said:  "Don’t think we need another morning of football. Other things are happening in the world".

As another penned:  "Right, it's not coming home, move on #BBCBreakfast."
