Who is Matthew Fort?

Matthew was the son of Tory MP Richard Fort, who died when he was 12 years old.

The 71-year-old was privately educated at the prestigious Eton College, before going on to study at Lancaster University.

He is now an acclaimed journalist who was crowned the Glenfiddich Food Writer of the Year in 1992 and 1993. Matthew also won the title of The Restaurateurs' Association Food Writer of the Year in 1993.

What does Matthew Fort do for work?

Matthew was the Food and Drink editor of The Guardian for 15 years - until 2012.

He also writes for Esquire, Country Living, Decanter and Waitrose Food Illustrated magazines - as well as The Guardian's Sunday paper The Observer.

His books include Rhubarb and Black Pudding (1998), Eating up Italy: Voyages on a Vespa (2004) and Sweet Honey, Bitter Lemons (2008).

He has co-presented Market Kitchen, on UKTV Food, and has been a judge on Great British Menu since 2006.

When is Great British Menu 2018 on TV?

The 13th series of the Great British Menu started on Monday August 13 at 7.30pm on BBC2.

Twenty-four professional chefs show off their culinary skills in the hopes of being chosen to cook one course for the four course banquet to celebrate the National Health Service's (NHS) 70th birthday.

Matthew Fort returns to join chef Andi Oliver and Irish restaurateur Oliver Peyton on the judging panel.

Matthew said: "I can’t think of a better group of people to celebrate series 13 with than the heroes of the NHS, and luckily for us judges the standard of the food is higher than ever. Stupendous!”

The feast will be held in the Great Hall of St Bartholomew's Hospital, Britain’s oldest working hospital.

The 18-episode series airs every week day from 7.30pm, starting with in the North East with the starters.
