Who is Simon Wood?

Simon Wood is a former data manager.

His areas of passion include fine dining, the art of plating, and teaching.

Simon's love of cooking began at the age of eight when he won a competition to be anything for a day and chose to be a chef.

In 2015 he won Masterchef after impressing judges John Torode and Greg wallace.

He has just opened his first restaurant Wood in Manchester.

What's on the menu at Simon Wood's new restaurant?

Wood is located on First Street in Manchester opposite theatre and arts cinema Home.

The website claims that the food offers "modern interpretations on traditional flavours focusing on simplicity and purity."

Diners can choose from À la carte, theatre and tasting menus.

One decadent dish on offer is an £80 tomahawk steak "to share."

What has Simon Wood been doing since he won Masterchef?

After winning MasterChef, Simon was appointed as executive chef of Oldham Event Centre, part of Oldham Athletic Football Club.

It was also at the Oldham Event Centre that Simon launched his pop-up restaurant The Boardroom.

In 2016 he published his debut cookbook At Home with Simon Wood – Fine Dining Made Simple.

Simon will return to Masterchef as a guest judge on the 2018 series on March 5.

What are the other Masterchef 2015 finalists doing now?

On the 2015 series of Masterchef, Simon Wood went head to head with finalists Emma Spitzer and Tony Rodd.

Tony Rodd was dubbed "The master chocolatier" by Greg Wallace and has continued to pursue his passion for sweet treats.

He now travels the length and breadth of the country giving demonstrations and attends food events including The Chocolate Show in London.

After Masterchef Emma Spitzer went on to cater for private dinner parties and runs cookery seminars.

In 2017 she also published her first cookbook Fress.
