DAME Judi Dench joined animal rights groups yesterday to slam Lidl for selling
kangaroo meat.
Activists have blasted the budget supermarket — flogging ’roo steaks for £3.99
— over the culling of the creatures and their babies.
The Bond star, 79, said: “Animal cruelty is barbarism and killing a joey after
killing the mother is unacceptable.”
Justin Kerswell of animal rights group Viva! said: “Pouch young will be pulled
from their dying mother and smashed about the head and discarded.”
But a spokesman for Lidl insisted: “Kangaroos are sustainably harvested under
strict government control.”
