EVERY dog has its day … and tonight it was Pudsey’s after the loveable pup
won Britain’s Got Talent.
Owner Ashleigh, 17, burst into tears after she was announced the winner of
this year’s talent show.
An emotional Ashleigh told viewers: “I want to say a massive thank you to
everyone that voted for me, I’m so proud of Pudsey it means so much.”
Ashleigh and her pet dog Pudsey, who she has owned since she was 11 years old,
have now secured a spot on this year’s Royal Variety Performance. The pair
also scooped £500,000.
The dancing dog duo pipped bookies’ favourites Jonathan and Charlotte, into
second place.
The act wowed the judges and viewers earlier in the night with an impressive
Mission Impossible style routine.
The energetic performance, which saw Pudsey jump on his owner’s shoulders and
jump through her arms, received rave reviews from the panel.
David Walliams gushed: “The nation has fallen in love with Pudsey and you
too. You are the ones to beat tonight.”
Alesha added: “You are showing how special dogs are and what you can do
with the right owner and love. You are the ones to beat.”
Amanda said: “It was unbelievable and sensational. Pudsey is everybody’s
best friend.”
Dog lover Simon added: “You’ve got better and better and to do what you
did in a short time is a miracle.”
The Sun revealed last night that bookies were slashing Ashleigh and Pudsey’s
odds ahead of the final tonight. The act saw their odds increase to 7/4
while opera duet Jonathan and Charlotte maintained their lead at 5/4.
It is the first time a dog act has won the show. Simon Cowell, who has been on
the lookout for a top dog act, revealed that “his life’s work is now
complete”.
Runners-up Jonathan and Charlotte, who sang Celine Dion’s classical hit The
Prayer, were however ecstatic to come second. Charlotte said: “Oh my
god we came second. It was incredible.”
The opera singers had seemed certain to win the show after a “professional
performance” in this year’s final.
Jonathan and Charlotte, who were the last to perform, have been compared to
Susan Boyle, who found fame on the same show in 2009.
Bookies Ladbrokes have already put 2/1 odds for the duo to have a number one
this year and 25/1 odds for the Christmas number one.
Welsh choir Only Boys Aloud, who sang Calon Lan, came third.
Judges David Walliams, Simon Cowell and Alesha Dixon had earlier predicted in
the series that Jonathan and Charlotte would win the show while Amanda
predicted Only Boys Aloud.
Earlier in the night, Irish singer-songwriter Ryan O’Shaughnessy brought the
judges to tears after he sang his hit No Name.
The lovesick singer, who nearly missed the final after being contracted to the
The Voice in Ireland, sang the song he had written for his best friend Katie
Keegan.
The judges predicted a bright future for the star with David saying it was the “most
emotional performance we’ve ever seen on Britain’s Got Talent.”
He added: “You are going to have a very big future as a musician.
Simon Cowell’s wild card act, Manchester band The Mend, failed to make their
mark in tonight’s competition – despite kicking off the show in style with
David Guetta’s Without You.
Camp judge David Walliams showed he had talent as he took to the stage to
perform alongside The Showbears for a second time.
David donned a silver cap and costume to sing We’re Sailor Men, live on the
Britain’s Got Talent stage.
