WILLING HIM ON

Prince William is having private meetings to prepare to follow in Prince Charles’ footsteps when the Queen dies

PRINCE William has been attending private meetings to prepare him for what will happen when the Queen dies.

The Duke of Cambridge, 37, will step into the shoes of his dad Prince Charles, 70, and will inherit his title and £1billion Duchy of Cornwall estate.

Evidence of preparation to take over from his dad’s role were seen in the Court Circular, which is the Royal Family’s official diary.

On September 12, just weeks before he set off on his five-day royal tour of Pakistan with Kate Middleton, William attended the latest of these meetings.

William seems to be ramping up the preparation as this is the fourth he has attended this year, after previously doing three similar meetings in 2018 and two in 2017.

The diary entry says: “The Duke of Cambridge this morning attended a Duchy of Cornwall Meeting at 10 Buckingham Gate, London SW1.”

Details of the meeting aren’t listed on the site, but typically they relate to the Duchy of Cornwall estate, which William is set to manage.

The duchy owns around 134,000 acres of land spanning 23 counties in the UK, and is estimated to be valued at £1billion.

The estate generated Charles around £20.5million last year, which he uses to fund his charitable, public and private activities.

It is also used to cover official expenses of sons Prince William and Prince Harry, and their wives Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle.

ITV has commissioned a landmark new series offering behind-the-scenes access to Prince Charles and his estate.

Inside The Duchy, airing later this month, features exclusive interviews with The Prince of Wales while giving an insight into the day-to-day running of 130,000 acres of land from the London Borough of Kensington to Dartmoor prison.

The series, which includes two hour-long episodes, features footage from a crew which spent a year in the Duchy of Cornwall.

Jo Clinton-Davis, ITV Controller of Factual, said: “We’re excited to have a landmark documentary offering viewers a unique, close quarters and intimate view of the Duchy and His Royal Highness’s role and working life within it.
