J.K. Rowling launches Harry Potter at Home to let fans join the wizarding world in isolation with quizzes & games
J.K. ROWLING has launched a new wizard-themed platform to bring a “dose of magic” to kids (and adults) during the coronavirus lockdown.
Harry Potter at Home allows families to access a free audiobook and copy of the first book, and also provides word searches, quizzes, crosswords among other activities.
J.K. Rowling tweeted yesterday: “Parents, teachers and carers working to keep children amused and interested while we’re on lockdown might need a bit of magic, so I’m delighted to launch harrypotterathome.com.”
On the site, it explains this is “where you’ll find all the latest things to keep you occupied – from special activity kits from Bloomsbury to Scholastic, to nifty magical craft videos (teach your friends how to draw a Niffler!) fun articles, quizzes, puzzles and more.
“We’re casting a Banishing Charm on boredom.”
Budding wizards can get their hands on their free audiobook copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone from Audible this month, where it usually costs £17.99.
It is available in six languages, with the British version read by the legendary Stephen Fry.
Fans can also get a free ebook copy of the book in 20 languages on Overdrive during April.
And teachers can also get involved in the spellbinding fun, as Rowling announced on March 20 that she has granted a temporary Open Licence allowing them to post videos of them reading the books out loud to their classes.
The is featured on the official franchise fan site, WizardingWorld.com, which changed its name from Pottermore in November 2019.
The now-live site says: “For over 20 years now, Hogwarts has been an escape for all - for readers and fans, young and old.
“During the strange times we now find ourselves in, we want to welcome you back to Hogwarts, where you will find a friendly retreat for you and your family”.
J.K. Rowling added: "The teachers, parents and carers working to keep children’s lives as normal and happy as possible while we’re all on lockdown deserve a bit of magic. I hope these initiatives will give children and even adults a happy distraction during their enforced stay-at-home time."
