Woman totally transforms ‘worn and dirty’ stairs with a lick of paint and cheap carpet treads

THEY carry us up and down floors hundreds of times a year, so it's no wonder our stairs can end up looking a bit worse for wear after a while.

One woman who was sick of the sight of her worn out stair carpets decided to give the area a total revamp with a lick of paint and some stylish carpet treads.

Best of all, the revamp didn't cost a bomb - she managed to stick to a budget of £60.

Showing off the results of her hard work on the Facebook group , the woman wrote: "My stair carpet was looking old, worn and dirty so I decided to take it up, paint the walls and stairs and lay carpet treads.

"It makes the area look so much lighter and brighter and cost less than £60 to transform this space."

Before, the stair carpet was a drab shade of beige, with obvious grubby patches from use over time.

After treating the are to a makeover, the space looks lighter, brighter and more modern thanks to fresh white paint on the steps, grey on the walls and chic carpet treads from eBay.

Other DIY fans are impressed with the woman's remarkable eye for interior design, flocking to the post to shower her with compliments.

One woman said: "Beautiful what a brilliant idea. Just paid a fortune for a new stair carpet, wish I'd known such things existed."

Another added: "Wow! So much more clean and contemporary looking! I fancy that idea myself. Stair carpets are good for noise reduction but a total nightmare to keep clean."

Some people loved the look so much, they're going to give it a go on their own stairs.

"I love it!" one person wrote. "Was going to change the stair carpet, but will paint instead - so clean and fresh!"
