I’m worth £37m but wouldn’t take my kids to Thomas Land – I don’t want them to be spoilt, says Sara Davies

STRICTLY contestant and Dragon's Den millionaire Sara Davies is worth a whopping £37million - but she's keen that her children never get spoilt.

The savvy entrepreneur set up a crafting company from her university bedroom that now turns over more than £34 million a year and exports products to more than 40 countries.

Despite the incredible success and subsequent TV fame, Sara likes to keep her feet on the ground, and more importantly, make sure her children do the same.

Speaking exclusively to Fabulous, she said: "We do live in a beautiful, big home in a lovely neighbourhood, which is very different to how my husband and I grew up, but I want to keep them grounded and have the same values.

"My husband is very good at keeping me grounded. Every December we go to this beautiful hotel in Dubai for a long weekend just the two of us and I will say: 'let’s bring the kids, they’ll love it' and Simon will say no because when we were kids we didn’t get that sort of thing.

"He doesn’t want them to think that that is what a family holiday is. So we have that, the two of us for a weekend, and then we take the kids for an all-inclusive cheapie package deal to Tenerife in the summer. They love it."

But it's not just on family holidays where the couple hold back from splashing the cash.

Sara said: "Our kids are massive Thomas The Tank Engine fans and we had taken them to Thomas Land the previous year and they loved it.

"The next year Simon [my husband]’s mum and dad wanted to take them to Thomas Land and they did.

"I felt like I had missed out by not taking them so I said: 'In October half term I’m booking them tickets’ and Simon told me not to.

"He said: 'No you are not they have already been this year and I don’t want them to think that’s an everyday thing.'

"I was distraught because I haven’t taken them that year and I want to see the joy on their faces. But he said: 'No it’s not about you, it’s about them’."

But even though she and her husband hold off on spending the big bucks, Sara is committed to providing for her family in the ways that matter.

She said: "There are some things I want the kids to have that I didn’t, but I am also the person I am because of the upbringing I had. I want that for them too.

"I’d love the kids to work in the business but because it’s so big and corporate, you can’t turn up with the five year old to pack boxes!

"My sister has taken over the family business which is the wallpaper and paint shop my parents had when I was younger.

"Last week during half term she had the children polishing paint tins and packing boxes and doing all the stuff I had to do.

"It brought a tear to my eye that she was able to give them the experience we couldn’t because the business is too big. They are learning.

"She’d give them a little pocket money for doing it, a few quid of their wages and they are starting to understand how much things cost."
