We test body lotions for all budgets – from CeraVe to Paula’s Choice

IT is officially spring, which means that tights season is almost over!
So this week, in preparation for baring my legs, I’ve been trying out body lotions which promise to hydrate limbs without being sticky. . .
Budget
CeraVe Moisturising Cream, £17 for 454g, : The packaging isn’t glam, and the formula looks like it would be gloopy and greasy, but if there was ever a beauty case for “don’t judge a book by its cover” it is this moisturiser.
A little goes a long way, so the ginormous tub will probably last me until the end of summer.
The white cream takes a bit of rubbing in, but dries down quickly so you can get dressed immediately without feeling like your clothes are sticking to you.
Like magic, when you next step into the shower you will feel it being rinsed off, so if you have dry skin, or struggle to keep your limbs hydrated, look no further.
Mid-Range
The Body Shop Body Yogurt, £12 for 200ml, : This was the first body lotion I’ve ever managed to finish completely, which is saying something.
I normally find moisturising my body too time-consuming and forget to do it on a regular basis, but this lightweight water-cream texture is so quick and easy to apply and, true to its claims, it does not leave you feeling sticky or greasy at all.
It comes in seven scents, my current favourite is the moringa, and they’re all vegan.
My only gripe is the packaging – I think the formula is plenty thin enough that it could be in a supersized-pump format, but I appreciate they’re worse for the environment than the tub it’s housed in now, so I can understand why that’s not available.

Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Body Spot Exfoliant, £33 for 210ml, : Nothing has ever made my legs feel softer than this – so much so I started to demand people touch them to understand the velvety finish.
It comes with one huge drawback though, it smells “bad”.
I’m assuming it’s down to the chicken-skin busting acids in the formula, so if you have keratosis pilaris (a common condition where small bumps develop on your skin), the smell might be worth it.
Plus, on the other end of the spectrum to CeraVe, I used about a quarter of the tube the first time I applied it over my whole body, so I can’t imagine a tube lasting long.
Pick of the week
AS the clocks went forward last night and we lost an hour’s beauty sleep, it’s time to talk sleep-supporting pillow mists.
The new Wildsmith Stillness Pillow Mist, £29, is made from ten essential oils including rose geranium oil, which supports emotional stability and reduces anxiety, and roman chamomile oil, renowned for soothing and calming.
Eight out of ten users reported falling asleep more easily and said they woke up feeling more refreshed.
