BEER lovers will soon be seeing double – and not for the reason you might expect.

Beloved Burton-on-Trent brew Double Diamond is making a return after nearly 30 years with a revamped formula.

The tipple, once Britain’s favourite bottled ale, was adored by Prince Philip, who drank one nightly.

Staffordshire brewery Allsopp’s announced the comeback, saying: “Revived as a 3.8 per cent pale ale, it is a delicious, easy-going sessionable draft beer coming very soon to your favourite pubs.”

Many will remember Double Diamond for its advertising slogans, including, “You’re only here for the beer” and “Double Diamond works wonders” as well as the claim “everybody feels better” after drinking it.
