FOODIES are going wild as a viral Aldi buy has finally returned to shelves.
Not only is it purse-friendly, but shoppers have described it as ‘delicious’ too.
It rivals a popular M&S buy and back in 2021, the chain launched a legal battle against Aldi, accusing it of copying its Colin the Caterpillar cake.
The posh chain argued the similarity of Aldi’s cake and wanted the retailer to agree not to sell the sweet treat.
By 2022, the supermarkets had reached a confidential agreement out of court and called a truce in the bug-shaped cake war.
The companies did not disclose the terms of the settlement - but both cakes would still be sold.

At the time, an Aldi spokesperson said: “Cuthbert is free and looking forward to seeing all his fans again very soon!”
While an M&S spokesperson said: “The objective of the claim was to protect the IP in our Colin the Caterpillar cake and we are very pleased with the outcome.”
And now, four years later after the rivalry began, the German retailer’s chocolate sponge roll, Cuthbert the Caterpillar, is back in stores.
Aldi, a chain well-known for its copycat products, launched its caterpillar cake in 2019 for £4.99, while M&S charges a pricier £7.

M&S first launched the iconic cake 30 years ago and its design has been largely unchanged since 2004.
Posting on social media, on the chain’s official @ account, the supermarket gave shoppers a close-up look at the mouth-watering treat in a joke-style video.
Aldi shared clips of Cuthbert “in the wild” and wrote: “Just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it returned to the baked goods aisle.”
Now, Aldi’s Cuthbert the Caterpillar cake is priced at £6.49.
