ONCE a tool mainly used by celebrities, cosmetic surgery is now a beauty secret employed by many members of the general public.
But, while surgical procedures in general may be increasingly popular, the areas being treated, and how, vary as the years go by.
Once upon a time, large, breasts of football-shaped proportions were all the rage.
Now, the bum reigns supreme - with reality stars and Insgtagrammers alike opting for a bottom boosting bum-lift - combined with itty-bitty waist.
In years gone by, face lifts and invasive facial treatments were used by those wanting to look more "youthful", but now more "preventative" (albeit temporary) measures such as Botox and fillers are being used in the fight against ageing.
So what's "hot" and what's "not" when it comes to cosmetic surgery in 2018? Here's the lowdown...
Going up...
Brazilian Bum Lifts
Big bottoms are big news - and it's not all good.
Earlier this week Leah Cambridge, 29, from Leeds, collapsed shortly after the start of the £3,000 procedure - deemed the "deadliest cosmetic procedure" by top surgeons in Britain.
These days, big bums and “belfies” are huge business, and celebs with extra-large derrieres are driving the trend forward.
However, after reports of botched jobs and the dangers of BBL's being more talked about in the media, perhaps the big booty will soon see it's day.
One expert that certainly seems to think that the reign of the rear may soon be over is US favourite Dr Lancer (dermatologist to the stars).
He told : “People distorting their rear end is on its last death throes.”
Non-surgical nose jobs
Dr Lancer also revealed that nose jobs are out but nose lifts are "in".
He added: “Bringing up the nose with a drop of Botox at the base has been popular for the last couple of years, so you don’t have that 35-year plus down-turned nose.”
Noses can also be treated with filler to even out any bumps or unevenness - rather than going under the knife.
Lip lifts
Lip fillers have been a beauty staple for many beauty fans over the last few years - especially those looking to emulate pouty stars such as Kylie Jenner.
But, it seems fillers may be filing out for 2018 - at least in the lip department.
Last week, we revealed how lip lifts are set to be the lastest trend when it comes to augmenting our pouts.
Dara Liotta, a facial plastic surgeon who works in New York and Dubai spoke to about the rising demand for the minor surgical procedure.
The op takes under an hour, is performed under general anaesthesia and aims to lessen the space between the bottom of the nose and the top of the lips - creating the appearance of more defined lips.
This is a permanent fix, as opposed to the popular lip fillers' temporary jabs.
Thread lifts
A thread lift is a minimally invasive procedure for the face, neck, or jowls and gives similar results to a face lift - without the surgery.
Small threads are carefully inserted into the area of concern and then adjusted to obtain the desired look.
Professor Marcos Sforza, Expert Aesthetic Surgeon and Scientific Director from explained:
“Threads which have small cones on them are passed under the skin via a large needle.
“The threads not only now dissolve, but they also stimulate collagen production to further improve the texture and tone of the skin.”
Going down
Giant boob jobs
There's a reason many stars have reportedly ditched their supersize silicon for smaller, more natural busts.
The once popular glamour-girl style, extra-large chest has lost favour over the last few years.
These days, celebs who do go under the knife are choosing to grow their boobs by just a cup size or so - with a "mini boob job".
Consultant Plastic Surgeon Mr Adrian Richards works at the Aurora Clinics, part of The Private Clinic Group, and has confirmed this is a growing trend.
He told : “People now are having much smaller breast enlargements, moving away from the trend for very big implants.
"People are looking for a more natural appearance.
“They've realised that as they get older they don't want to look matronly with bigger breasts."
Face lifts
Face lifts have been on the decline over the last few years - with many not wanting to risk an overdone "pulled" look.
According to , surgeons who used to spend entire days operating now tend to use a "cocktail" of non-invasive treatments on their patients.
Surgeon Raj Kanodia told THR: "Twenty years ago I was doing face-lifts; now it's only noses, injectables and lasers."
He added: "I personally don't ever want a face-lift. I'd rather have wrinkles than look pulled and artificial."
