Royal expert reveals exactly what the rules are for PDA – and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle aren’t breaking them
Some royal couples are definitely more touchy feely than others

A ROYAL expert has revealed exactly how much affection members of the monarchy should show each other when in public.
We all know there’s a customary kiss at a wedding, a tradition started by Princess Diana and Prince Charles, but other than that it’s entirely up to the couples.
Despite intense speculation over rules and protocol, royal expert Myka Meier revealed PDA (public displays of affection) is up to the individuals themselves.
It goes without saying at formal engagements demand a certain level of discretion, but the royals essentially have a free rein.
Myka told : “Senior members of the royal family would likely not be told how to interact or when they can or cannot show PDA and would be trusted to use their better judgement as to when it’s appropriate.
“The royals often adjust PDA to mirror the formality of the event they are attending.
“At a sombre or more formal event, we are less likely to see PDA than at a casual event where it would be deemed more fitting.”
She explained that’s why when photos surfaced of Mike Tindall touching Zara Tindall’s bottom at an equestrian festival, they may have raised eyebrows but they didn’t break any ‘royal rules’.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are arguably the most PDA-obsessed couple of the royal crowd, with the pair seen as pushing boundaries with their loved-up displays.
The Sussex’s are frequently seen holding hands, putting their hands on each other’s thighs, and the Duchess often put her hands on Prince Harry’s back.
They're in stark contrast to more reserved Cambridge's, although royal fans were quick to spot Kate Middleton placed her hand on Prince William’s thigh during Princess Eugenie's wedding.
But one situation where both couples pack on some PDA is at charity polo matches, where just like Princess Diana, Meghan and Kate kiss their husbands while presenting them with trophies.
While PDA is up to the individuals, there is one golden rule all the couples abide by.
And that’s strictly no PDA in front of Her Majesty, who has stretched to holding Prince Philip’s hand in public occasionally.
The younger royals respect her values, and as such keep their hands to themselves for the most part when she’s around.
