THE Academy Awards are one of the most glamorous events in the film calendar and the world’s biggest stars have taken to the red carpet today.
They may dazzle on the big screen, but not everyone wowed with their sartorial choices this year – with these looks slightly missing the mark at the Academy Awards.

She may be up for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress thanks to her sensational performance in The Favourite, but Rachel Weisz, 48, failed to impress on the red carpet.
The stunning star wore a bizarre red dress that featured a gaping rubber top section, over an embellished pleated skirt.
And it wasn't just Rachel who turned heads for the wrong reasons at the event.
The 91st Academy Awards is taking place at the Dolby Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard, Los Angeles, where some of the biggest names in entertainment find out if they had won one of the coveted Oscar gongs.

Bridesmaids star Maya Rudolph, 46, followed the old adage of go bold or go home, pulling out all the stops in a striking floral dress with capes that will certainly have raised eyebrows.
While the pattern is pretty, the shapeless dress swamped the actress and slightly resembled an old-fashioned nightie.
Linda Cardellini, 43, who starred in Avengers: Age of Ultron clearly went against the widely-held mantra that less is more in some cases.
To say the star's pink dress is extremely frilly and over-the-top would be an understatment, as the striking, layered Christian Siriano gown cascaded onto the red carpet, and was fastened with a large bow at the front.
And US singer Kacey Musgraves, 30, looked like a giant cake topper in a pale pink, frilly gown by Giambattista Valli.
Singer SZA, 28, didn't hit all the right notes in a white, fringe detailed dress with a high leg slit.

And American Horror Story star Sarah Paulson, 44, opted for a rather unusual high-necked bright pink gown by Brandon Maxwell that had a cut out section around her midriff.
Meanwhile, Gemma Chan, 36, from Crazy Rich Asians looks sensational in everything she wears, but we aren't sure what to make of her bright neon Valentino gown that looks like a duvet.
The Help actress Cicely Tyson, 94, didn't know when to stop when it came to feathers covering her outfit.

And Melissa McCarthy, 48, may be one of our heroes, but she paired her sleek plunging white shirt and dark trousers with an actual white cape - and it was definitely an unusual choice.
Crazy Rich Asians Awkwafina, 29, certainly lived up to her quirky side with a purple, shimmery trouser suit by DSquared2, that included a striking pussybow tie.
Disney star Laura Marano, 23, from TV show Austin & Ally, wore a clashing yellow and pink dress by Celia Kritharioti, with a huge bow on the back.
Meanwhile, British costume designer Sandy Powell, 58, certainly knows how to dress to turn heads in a bold striped suit that she paired with trainers.
Singer-songwriter Gillian Welch and her musical partner David Rawlings may have been up for Best Original Song, but their country outfits and cowboy boots stood out among the glam frocks.

Olivia Colman's period comedy-drama The Favourite and Netflix's black-and-white epic Roma led this year's Oscar race, with 10 nominations each.
The other contenders included A Star Is Born and Vice with eight each, followed by Black Panther with seven.
Black Panther was the first superhero movie to be nominated for best picture.
