Kate Middleton wears three different sizes of shoes to stop blisters when her feet swell

The Duchess of Cambridge has a genius way of preventing her heels causing soreness

MUCH has been made of the differences between Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle - but one thing they do have in common is a trick to stop their heels making their feet sore.

The Duchess of Cambridge buys three sizes of shoes in order to avoid blisters when her feet swell, while the Duchess of Sussex opts for footwear several sizes too big for her to maximise comfort.

With royal engagements that see them both on their feet for long periods of time, it is probable that both Kate and Meghan found out the hard way how to swerve painful feet - just like the rest of us who have struggled through a wedding or night out.

Last year, eagle-eyed royal fashion fans spotted that Meghan, 37, always seemed to have a half-centimetre gap between the back of the shoe and her heel.

And now it seems Kate, 37, is following her lead by playing around with sizing too.

The mum-of-three has purchased her Jimmy Choo 'Georgia' pumps and 'Vamp' sandals in a British size 5.5, or European 38.5.

However, she goes up to a size 6 - or a 39 - for L.K. Bennett's 'Agata' sandals, and even down to a size 5 - or 38 - for Rupert Sanderson footwear.

It has been suggested by that she opts for her heeled sandals in bigger sizes because she is more likely to wear them in warmer months when her feet might swell.

This is the very same reason Fabulous fashion expert Harriet Davey believes Meghan opts for roomier heels too.

"Celebs often go a size up, or even two, in the shoe department when they're at an event or on the red carpet and it's for one reason we can all relate to - to avoid blisters," she explained.

"There's nothing worse than uncomfortable shoes (we've all been there on a night out) and when celebs like Meghan are wearing heels for a long period of time their feet can often swell up."

"The swelling can cause blisters and in the long run bunions - like long-time heel fan Victoria Beckham has been rumoured to suffer with."

Harriet added: "A trick of the trade is to stuff the toe with padding like tissue or cotton wool, and this can be taken out once they feel like they need a bit more room in their shoes."

Meghan used the trick at Princess Eugenie's balmy October wedding shortly before her pregnancy was announced, and she also enlisted it for the chilly November day her engagement was announced.

Earlier today, we told you how royal fans are claiming Kate Middleton and Princess Diana broke tradition with their Lindo Wing baby appearances and not Meghan Markle.

Yesterday, we revealed how the Duchess of Cambridge will wear the Queen Mother's crown when Prince William becomes king - and it is decorated with 2,800 diamonds.

And she is allowed to wear jewellery made famous by Princess Diana, but the Duchess of Sussex has been banned by the Queen.
