IF it’s good enough for Harry Styles at the camp-themed Met Gala in New York, then a black ruffled ensemble with high-heeled boots is surely good enough for me to hit the mean streets of London.

Well, kind of.

To fit with the Met dress code, Harry draped his frame in what I’m told is a semi-sheer black jumpsuit, accessorised with shiny Cuban heels and a single teardrop pearl earring.

The entire outfit was custom-made by Gucci, whereas I’m kitted out in a replica ensemble from The Sun’s fashion team – a sheer frilly top and drapey women’s trousers from Zara, a pair of heels from Topshop and some black lace from a haberdashery.

The look is completed by Top-shop rings, a clip-on earring from Claire’s Accessories and some borrowed nail polish.

It is certainly One Direction I’ve never tried before – here’s how I got on.

IN GOOD NICK (MAYBE)

AS I cross the Millennium Bridge I’m sure I sense some odd looks. But then I guess odd looks attract odd looks.

Then by Tower Bridge I’m approached by some Dutch Harry fans.

Laura Rodriguez, 17, says: “I thought his outfit was really weird but I liked it. I’m a big fan.”

Tactfully she avoids commenting on my gear.

BLOUSE THAT

While I’m waiting for a bus some builders catcall me as they pass. One yells out: “You have something on your heel, mate.”

I cock one leg to inspect my boot sole and they fall about laughing.

I realise I’ve fallen for a classic playground trick. As if I didn’t look camp enough.

CHECK HIM OUT

CHECK me out at the checkout, shoppers! Well, nobody does, so it seems my outfit is wasted in the supermarket.

In fact, at the tills it looks like I’ve gone contactless – no one has contacted me to tell me how chic I look.

Still, with my heels’ extra height I can reach the top shelves.

Every little helps, it seems.

WALKING TALL

WALKING around in London is liberating. But the high heels pinch a bit so I take a breather and catch up with The Sun.

I’m stunned at how little attention my outfit gets. People barely look twice.

Of the few who do, IT consultant Alex Roashan, 24, says: “I like it. Men’s fashion seems to change all the time anyway.

“I once wore a dress on a holiday with the lads in Romania. It was fun.”

It’s enough to make me walk a little taller in my heels.
