Food safety watchdogs have alerted a "do not eat" label on four batches of the treat which could contain hidden traces of milk, however this is not currently featured on the label.

The Turkish delight products have been manufactured by TJX Europe and are also available to purchase online.

It affects 250g packs of Sultans Chocolate Covered Lemon Turkish Delight, Chocolate Covered Strawberry Turkish Delight and Chocolate Covered Pistachio Turkish Delight, as well as a 225g pack of Sultan's Covered Pistachio Turkish Delight.

The alert was issued by the Food Standard Agency which detailed how a "point of sale notice" would be displayed in "all" retail stores.

It added: "TJX Europe are recalling several Sultans Turkish Delights products, because they contain milk which is not mentioned on the label.

"This means the products are a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents."

The FSA has advised customers who have bought the products to "not eat them".

Instead, shoppers should return them to the relevant store for a refund or replacement.

The product safety recall asked customers who had purchased the product to "stop using it immediately".

It added: "Tell your friends and family about this recall!"

Describing the reason behind the recall, the government agency explained how there can sometimes be problems with a food product which means it should not be sold.

This can lead to the product being withdrawn or recalled.

When the problem is linked to a food allergy risk, the FSA will issue an Allergy Alert.

The Sun has approached TJX Europe for comment.
