SPECTACULAR images have emerged of one of London’s best preserved abandoned Victorian railway stations.
The pictures of the hidden station were captured by a group of awestruck visitors to the capital.

The impressive snaps show the crumbling, overgrown remains of the station, at Highgate, which was constructed back in 1867.
Highgate Underground station remains in use, but the passenger service ceased to use the surface station in the early 1950, whilst freight traffic continued until 1964.

Tunnels penetrated the hillsides at both ends of the station, with one leading towards East Finchley to the north and the other Crouch End to the south.
In the 1880s the station was then rebuilt to have two tracks at each side of a platform in the middle.
The London Underground started serving the station back in 1941, using different platforms inside tunnels beneath the surface station.

While the structure of the original station is still in place, the tunnels that once served it are blocked off and the platform is unloved and looks abandoned.
The haunting shots were taken by a group of urban explorers known as WildBoyz when they travelled down to London on a trip from the North East.

This is not the first time pictures of a disused underground station has become of interest.
Over the years striking images have continued to emerge of various abandoned sites - including Aldwych, Down Street and Ongar.

Other hidden tunnels that have been kept hidden include the London Post Office Railway – which operated until 2003.
This railway was used by Royal Mail to transport post through secret underground train passages.
The tunnels were described as the “Post Office’s best-kept secret” as more than 220 people worked beneath the ground moving letters.
