As John Thomson opts to boost his locks, we look at the stars’ most infamous hair transplants

No bald patches here, thank you very much...

WOMEN seem to spend half their lives removing their hair, while men worry about losing theirs.

But for the lads lucky enough to have the cash in their pockets, there's a simple solution.

Hair transplants are becoming more and more common amongst men with thinning locks, with many celebrities openly admitting to having the procedure.

Here, we take a look at some of the most impressive hair transformations to date...

John Thomson

This week, the former Cold Feet star revealed he had taken the plunge in a bid to spice up his love life.

John, who stars in The Fast Show, explained: "I realised I was losing my hair so I thought I'd get it done at the Farjo Hair Institute.

"I might have got away with a bald head if my build was different. But thin men carry it off better."

The former Celebrity Big Brother star has made no secret of losing his hair.

He's openly had three hair transplants in a bid to sort out his insecurities, last going under the knife last year.

At the time he said: "No man wants to be bald.

"Losing your hair is one of the most demoralising things that can happen to a man as he ages."

Louis Walsh

The music mogul was encouraged to have a £30,000 hair transplant by his pal Simon Cowell, who joked about his bald patch. Louis clearly took his words very seriously.

After the treatment, he explained: "I could have just left it and got on with things, but with TV today, everything is in high definition, and people notice every little thing.

"And if you’re getting on, and you’re on TV with a lot of young people, you have to look after yourself.

"So I thought ‘I don’t want a bald spot! I’m going to get this sorted."

Elton John

The star set the trend for hair transplants after being one of the first celebs to get the treatment done in the nineties.

Elton underwent a huge transformation after reportedly going into rehab to deal with his bulimia, drug use and alcoholism, and as he regained health and lost weight, he opted for the transplant to top it all off.

While he was mocked at the time, it didn't take long for many other sufferers to follow suit.

He's never commented on his suspiciously bushier head of hair, but the Coldplay star's suspect hairline has got tongues wagging over the years.

He previously admitted to being concerned that his hair was "falling out" during a stressful period at the start of his career with the band, but it doesn't seem to be a problem anymore.

Wayne Rooney

The footballer started losing his hair at any early age - but when he stepped out with a noticeably fuller crop in 2011, fans started talking.

He later tweeted: "Just to confirm to all my followers I have had a hair transplant. I was going bald at 25, why not? I’m delighted with the result."

Jude Law

The Alfie star, who previously dated Sienna Miller, has never admitted to having a hair transplant.

Instead, he claimed it was down to a film role.

After months of constantly wearing a beanie hat in 2011, Jude refused to take it off during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show.

Despite chants from the audience, he responded: "I've been scalped for my new film and I've had the most heinous haircut you have ever seen.

"You'll see it in a cinema next year."

James Nesbitt

The former Cold Feet star only has good things to say about the procedure.

After losing the majority of his hair and being left with an almighty bald patch, the actor admitted his concerns had become an "obsession."

So James underwent two treatments and never looked back.

"I have had two hair transplants and I am very pleased with the results," he later said.

"In fact, I’d go as far as to say they’ve changed my life."

The Grease star has never confirmed having the procedure done, but the difference speaks for itself.

Many fans have been divided over whether his lustrous locks are the result of a hair piece or the surgery.

But one thing's for certain - he certainly looks different to his younger self.

It sounds like Simon Cowell is behind many stars' transformations.

The chef admitted to undergoing Botox after getting advice from the X Factor boss - and it looks like a hair transplant was another one of his tips.

Reports suggested that, like Louis, he had a £30,000 treatment, opting for the Alvi Armani clinic in Beverly Hills.

While he kept schtum on the decision, 'sources' explained: "While his hair may not have been obviously receding, it had become an issue for him.

"Some will call it vanity but to TV producers and Gordon it's a pre-emptive action to stop him suddenly going on TV with obvious thinning."

Joe Swash

Earlier this month, the former EastEnders actor confessed he'd gone under the knife.

"I had one done years ago but for myself it was something I wanted to do, it made me feel better.

"I just thought I started ageing a little bit, I looked older than I am. And especially with the job that I’m doing as well, I want to try and look my best.

"I think it’s more about how you feel personally.”
