Asthma costs NHS £1.1BILLION while three Brits die from the condition every day
Asthma UK reveals patients are not receiving basic clinical care despite six million consultations for the condition every year

ASTHMA costs the NHS £1.1billion a year while three Brits die every day from the condition, a study has found.
Experts say greater focus on basic care is now needed to cut the rates of severe attacks.
Kay Boycott, chief executive of Asthma UK, which carried out the study, said: “Many are still not receiving care that meets even the most basic clinical standards.”
She added: “New technologies such as smart inhalers are the likely game changer that could reduce asthma attacks and ease the burden.”
The research team discovered that there are more than six million GP and nurse consultations for asthma every year.
And more than 270 people are admitted to hospital each day due to the condition.

With more than 18 million people being treated at some stage in their life, statistics show Britain to have the highest asthma rate in the world.
Ms Boycott said: "Supporting people to better manage their asthma would lead to healthier lifestyles, reducing the need for NHS appointments and freeing up care for those who need it most."
HEALTH TAX CALL
A NEW tax is urgently needed to fund the NHS and social care system, a Tory doctor and ex health minister claims.
Dan Poulter said a national insurance hike would suffice.
He added: “People fit to go home, stay in hospital because of difficulties arranging their social care.”
