A 24-YEAR-OLD student who couldn’t afford to get on the property ladder has created her dream home for just £3,600 by buying a caravan.

The creative youngster then spent £2457 transforming it into a luxury, vintage-inspired pad complete with a kitchenette, bathroom, retro-looking living area and romantic bedroom nook.

She told : “I came across a caravan on Gumtree. It was 24 foot and just a shell when we bought it. It only cost £1143.”

The mobile home was bare except for the walls, windows and some electrical wiring, most of which had to be replaced.

Maggie used recycled goods and roped in her friends to help transform the van in order to keep costs down.

She watched YouTube tutorials to learn how to make things and got most of her appliances, including an oven, shower base and a fridge, from Gumtree.

The most she spent was £60 on a gorgeous vintage chesterfield sofa.

Maggie wanted to create a home that reflected her eclectic style.

She papered the wall with pretty floral designs and retro magazines, hung ornate lanterns from the ceiling and gave the outside of the van a lick of paint.

“I liked the challenge,” she said. “Doing it all myself was quite an experience, but it was really rewarding.”
