Rare 50ps, 20ps, £2 coins and 2ps could worth a mint, has revealed.

A limited edition 50p featuring Kew Gardens - the rarest coin in circulation - can change hands for £50, as collectors eye up valuable currency.

The Royal Mint made just 210,000 of the commemorative coins to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Royal Botanical Gardens in 2011.

Experts believe one in 300 people have one of the coins, but they expect them to quickly be picked up by eager private collectors.

A dateless 20p coin could also make you £100.

Between 50,000 and 200,000 20p coins with no date on either side were released in 2008 because of an error at the Mint.

The mistake was made as officials moved the date stamp to the front of currency, from the back.

In 1992 and 1993 commemorative 50p coins celebrating the British presidency of the European Council were released - which could now be worth about £20.

While if you have a rare 1983 'new pence' 2p coin you could be in line to make up to £650.

The Royal Mint replaced 'new pence' with 'two pence' on the back of the coins in 1982. But in 1983 it accidentally produced a small amount of coins to the previous design.

To celebrate the London Olympics 29 specially designed coins were created - but the real prize is a rare 50p aquatic coin.

Just 600 coins showing water passing directly over a swimmers face were released before the design was altered to show a clearly visible face.

One was recently listed on eBay for £3,000.

A number of £2 coins are also worth more than you would expect.

A Guy Fawkes coin, with an inscription reading 'Pemember Pemember the Fifth of November' rather that 'Remember Remember the Fifth of November' could fetch £16.

While a limited edition coin commemorating Charles Dickens released in 2012 can sell for £8 and 2011 designs celebrating the 500th anniversary of the Mary Rose and the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible are both being picked up for about £6.

Among those to cash in on the new craze for rare £5 notes are a grandmother who made £1,699 after spotting a misprint and a dad-of-three who had 30 fivers with the rare AA01 serial number.
