Who is Elon Musk? Meet the billionaire who thinks robots will steal ALL our jobs and wants to be the first man on Mars

He has an on-off marriage with actress Talulah Riley and believes life on Mars is the future of the human race... but are his ideas a bit too bonkers?

HIS spectacular ideas about life of Mars, robots stealing our jobs and an 800-mph transport system are truly out of this world.

And entrepreneur Elon Musk, who was born in South Africa, continues to baffle Planet Earth.

He's a powerful man - Elon is the co-founder of PayPal, which was sold to eBay in 2002 for £1.2 billion.

The 45-year-old is also the chief executive of electric car pioneer Tesla and SpaceX - who ferry cargo for NASA - and the chairman of SolarCity, America's biggest solar panel company.

As of June this year, he had an estimated net worth of £9.3 million, making him the 83rd richest person in the world.

Elon was rumoured to be dating stunning 30-year-old model Amber Heard this summer, following the break-down of their marriage to Johnny Depp.

But it's his on-off relationship with St Trinians actress Talulah Riley which continues to keep people guessing.

The couple met in 2008, when 22-year-old Talulah was still a virgin, and wed two years later. She has since filed for divorce THREE times, but insists she loves Elon.

Now, with his business ideas becoming more and more bizarre, some are beginning to worry that the tech billionaire has taken on too much.

Life on Mars - and other ideas

Just last month, Elon outlined his plans for people to be living in glass domes on the surface of Mars within just 40 years.

The idea is to reduce the 'risk of human extinction' by setting up a colony on Mars.

His latest prophecy is that robots will take over ALL  of our jobs - not just manual labour work, but 'creative' ventures as well.

Elon thinks the government will be forced to pay some sort of universal basic income, as we'll all be out of work.

But it's not all doom and gloom -  we'll have more time to do 'more interesting things' and 'more leisure time'.

Elon's other goals include reducing global warming through sustainable energy, and a high-speed transport system known as the Hyperloop.

While Tesla plan to make all their cars self-driving by 2018.

Business boom and bust

In 2008, Tesla and SpaceX were increasingly close to collapsing - but Elon saved the companies by convincing investors to plough more money in.

In a climate when General Motors and Chrysler were filing for bankruptcy, Elon managed to keep his ventures on stable footing.

In 2012, Tesla launched a groundbreaking all-electric car, SpaceX docked a rocket with the International Space Station, and SolarCity went public.

But every time one project becomes a success, Elon decides to juggle more and more.

Back in September, Facebook founder Marc Zuckerberg publicly blasted Elon - and claimed SpaceX had destroyed his £150 million satellite.

The rocket that was meant to send the device into orbit dramatically exploded on the launch pad at Cape Canaveral, causing huge embarrassment for SpaceX.

Elon's reputation - and financial position - were both damaged by the mishap.

An estimated £290m was wiped off the company's value as the footage of the blast emerged.

With some of his newer and more innovative ideas, Elon is blurring the lines of impossibility.

Will his bonkers visions ever become reality?
