The most calorific festive sandwiches on the high street this Christmas packed with high levels of fat and salt… and some have more than TWO McDonald’s cheeseburgers
Whether it's a turkey treat or a six-inch sub full of stuffing, we've got the lowdown on the high calorie festive snacks

THEY are the lunchtime treats that remind you Christmas is coming.
But many of the festive sandwiches being sold across the country have more calories than TWO McDonald’s cheeseburgers.
If you tuck into festive treats on a daily basis, be prepared for a belly as big as Santa’s – the average Christmas sarnie contains more than a third of the recommended calorie allowance and high levels of fat and salt.
Here, RACHEL SPENCER reveals some of the worst offenders.
ASDA
The supermarket’s £2.50 Triple Feast is made up of three sandwiches – prawn cocktail; turkey, bacon and sausage; and cheddar and chutney.
At 657 calories, it is worse for your waistline than two McDonald’s cheeseburgers.
It also has a crazy 2.9g of salt – half an adult’s recommended daily amount.
PRET A MANGER
Commuters clamour for Pret’s signature festive sandwich – the £3.60 Christmas Lunch.
With turkey layered on malted bread with cranberry and port sauce, stuffing, onions and fresh spinach, it sure is tasty.
But it weighs in at 482 calories with 2.32g of salt and 16.1g of fat.
SAINSBURY’S
The Boxing Day Sub from Sainsbury’s consists of a soft white roll packed with turkey, bacon, sausage and stuffing. But the £2.20 sarnie contains 638 calories, 24.5g of fat and 2.92g of salt.
That adds up to half the recommended daily intake of salt and more than a third of the recommended total fat.

MARKS & SPENCER
This isn’t just a festive sandwich, it’s an M&S festive sandwich . . . and the £4.50 Christmas Club is spectacular in both appearance and calories.
The brioche bun is packed full of turkey, bacon and Brussels sprout coleslaw, topped with a pig in a blanket.
But it has 593 calories, 27.2g fat and 2.95g salt – double a regular sarnie.
TESCO
If you’re planning to tuck into the supermarket’s £2.20 Finest Turkey Feast, be aware.
The £2.20 sandwich contains turkey, sausage, bacon, stuffing and cranberry sauce but has 476 calories, 2.3g of salt and 16.5g fat – the same as Burger King’s Bacon Double Cheeseburger.
GREGGS
Also high in the lard-busting league is the Christmas treat from High Street baker Greggs.
Its £3 festive turkey and honey roast ham baguette comes with salad, mayo and cranberry relish.
However, with 552 calories, it has just 18 fewer than a Burger King Chicken Royale.
'Asking for trouble'
“SOME of these sandwiches have crazy amounts of calories,” says Sun nutritionist AMANDA URSELL.
“It’s like supermarkets and coffee shops are competing to be the most overloaded and seeing it as a badge of honour.
“Filling up on sandwiches that routinely nudge 500 calories or more is asking for trouble on the weight front, so seek out the ones that keep their calories below the 400 mark.
“That way, you can justify a slap-up lunch on Christmas Day, without any guilt.”
