AN Asda shopper has accused the supermarket of selling produce that is more than three years out of date, The Sun Online can reveal.

Ian Naylor, a 40-year old computer engineer from Aston, was out shopping with a friend when he came across over 30 out-of-date jars of the hot Ghanaian sauce on the shelves at Asda.

The sauce, which is called Shito Hot, is typically eaten with yams and rice and it can also be used as a spread.

Shito is the word for pepper in the Ghanaian language. The pictures show that one jar has a use by date of 17 October 2013.

Asda’s Small Heath branch in Birmingham is selling the out-of-date Shito Hot Sauce for £3.49 a jar.

As well as the Shito sauce, Ian also found the jars next door of Shito’s Hot Chili Sauce with Shrimp and Fish out of date.

Speaking to The Sun Online, Ian said: “Today while out shopping with my mate Yaw at one of the UK’s major supermarkets, we came across food products which were over three years out of date.

“I was horrified by the thought someone might consume these products without checking the dates causing them to fall ill.

“It’s not something I would expect from a major leading supermarket.”

Asda has been contacted for comment.

Earlier this month, a seven-month old baby was hospitalised after eating Poundland baby food that was two months out of date.
