Step away from the bottle!

This is why NOT washing your hair could be good for you – but only if you’re brunette

LAZY girls rejoice! You finally have an excuse to skip washing your hair and reach for that bottle of dry shampoo... but only if you're brunette.

We've all had those days where the thought of setting the alarm early just to wash and dry your tresses before work seems like the worst waste of valuable minutes that could be spent sleeping.

Well, now new research has justified staying in bed and styling out the grease instead.

If you're brunette, experts are now saying that you shouldn't wash your hair more than twice a week.

According to celebrity hair colourist Shah Karegar, who helped style the locks of super models Irina Shayk and Barbara Fialho before their stint on the runway for Victoria's Secret last month, avoiding washing brunette hair more than twice a week is the key to unlocking serious shine.

Shah says: "The reason why a lot of brunettes get mousy is because their hair is dehydrated, whether it's from the sun or being shampooed quite often."

For added shine, Shah recommends hydrating your dark locks "as much as possible" with a high-quality conditioner.

So next time you're running late and opt for that messy bun, feel smug in the knowledge your hair will look great in the long run.

From not washing, to not brushing - earlier this week we revealed why you shouldn't brush your hair in the morning.
