FAMILIES can enjoy posh Christmas goodies this year — at a bargain price.

Supermarkets and high street stores have near identical versions of upmarket food treats.

The goodies and popular gifts are a fraction of the cost stores like Fortnum and Mason and John Lewis charge. John Lewis have a festive gingerbread house for £15, yet a similar one at Aldi is £2.99.

And Fortnum and Mason’s Magnificent Christmas Pudding is £39.95 but an identical looking one at Morrisons is £7. Fancy booze is another area to save.

Bombay Sapphire gin costs £20.45 at The Whisky Exchange but £13.99 at Aldi.

You can also cash in with gifts. Sainsbury’s has a candle for a fiver that looks like a £55 one from designer Tom Dixon.

A £3 candle from Morrisons is like a £42 one from perfume guru Jo Malone. And a Le Creuset cast iron cooking pot costs £165 but Sainsbury’s similar pan is £35.

Retail expert Richard Perks, of market analysts Mintel, said: “Mass market retailers are coming up with lookalike food, prezzies and decorations to meet shoppers’ needs for affordable treats at Christmas.”
