Lidl and Aldi cut Christmas veggies to just 19p a pack…but here’s the ONE THING you should do before you go

Bargain hunters might be tempted to head to Lidl and Aldi after they slashed prices on Christmas essentials - but there's one thing they should do first

BARGAIN supermarkets Lidl and Aldi are selling Christmas dinner essentials for as little as 19p a pack, including carrots, parsnips and Brussels sprouts.

Lidl is cheapest for carrots as it slashes the prices of a 1kg bag of carrots to just 19p down from 49p as supermarkets battle to win the festive price war.

While both bargain shops are selling a 500g of parsnips for 19p - a discount of 35p off their usual price.

But, Asda is currently selling the same sized bag for 20p. Sainsbury’s and Morrisons who’ve also chopped their prices to 40p and 50p respectively too.

A 500g bag of sprouts is also on offer for 19p at Lidl and Aldi. That makes it just 1p more expensive than at Asda.

Supermarkets in the UK have been embroiled in a battle for customers over the past few years.

The popularity of outsiders Lidl and Aldi has hit rivals Tesco, Sainsbury's and Asda.

Data firm Nielson UK estimates that almost half of spending at Lidl and Aldi is on fruit, veg and fresh meat.

It lets shoppers compare prices at Tesco, Asda, Ocado, Waitrose, Sainsbury's, Morrisons, Poundland, Iceland, Aldi, Lidl, Amazon, Boots, Superdrug, M&S and Poundstretcher.Visit the website, add items to your basket and it will compare the prices and tell you which supermarket is cheapest based on your shopping list.

You can view the special offers at each and for luxury Christmas dinner items you can compare the prices individually and decide whether it’s worth a special trip to that supermarket to pick up a bargain.

For example, a whole cooked lobster is currently on offer at Sainsbury’s and Waitrose for £7.50, down from £9.

While a bottle Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label NV Champagne is down to £30 at Sainsbury’s and Tesco - around £5 cheaper than Waitrose and £7 cheaper than Morrisons.
