'TECHNICAL GLITCH'

Panic as Sainsbury’s shoppers told their Xmas food orders are in the wrong stores

One woman was told her order would be ready to pick up in store in Straiton near Edinburgh - 280 miles away from where she lives

HUNDREDS of Sainsbury's shoppers have been left panicked today after being told that their Christmas food orders are ready for collection - in stores hundreds of miles from where they live.

In what Sainsbury's is calling a "techinal glitch", shoppers were sent text messages telling them that their orders were ready to pick up in store, but not at the branch they selected.

One woman, who wished to remain anonymous, planned to pick up her Christmas food shop from her local Sainsbury's store in Grimsby, North East Lincolnshire, tomorrow, two days before Christmas.

But the mum-of-two was shocked when the supermarket text her this morning to say that her order was ready for collection - from their store in Straiton near Edinburgh, 280 miles away from where she lives.

She was expecting the message to confirm that her order would be ready at her local Grimsby store.

At the time, the Lincolnshire resident said: "This is my entire food order for Christmas dinner for six people - it's turkey, vegetables and all the trimmings.

"What am I supposed to do now? Christmas is ruined!"

But an hour later she received another text message from Sainsbury's telling her to ignore any previous messages and that her order would be at the store she requested.

She said she was now concerned that the text message error was a result of a data breach.

Other confused customers took to social media this morning to ask why they were being told their orders were in the wrong stores.

A spokesperson for Sainsbury's told The Sun Online said: “We’d like to reassure customers their orders can be collected as normal.

"We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused by this technical glitch.”

The spokesperson confirmed that this was not a data issue.
