Celebrity ‘clean’ eating diets believed to cure deadly diseases could be ‘putting our lives at risk,’ BBC2’s Horizon claims
BBC documentary reveals how fake doctor charged terminally ill Brit £63,000 for unusual diet treatments

CLEAN eating fads could be putting lives at risk as followers believe they can cure deadly diseases, a documentary claims.
BBC2’s Horizon reveals how a fake doctor behind the “Alkalising Diet” charged a terminally ill Brit £63,000 for treatments she believed would cure her breast cancer.
The celebrity followers include Elle Macpherson, Gwyneth Paltrow and Robbie Williams.
In Clean Eating: The Dirty Truth, on next Thursday, Dr Giles Yeo interviews “doctor” Robert Young in California.
Brit Naima Houder-Mohammed died after staying at his ranch, where alkalising diets were part of a “miracle” treatment.
Dr Yeo also investigates the plant-based diet that inspired Deliciously Ella. And he debunks the “grain-free diet” espoused by sisters Jasmine and Melissa Hemsley.
Dr Yeo said the diet creators are doing nothing wrong in encouraging healthy eating but they use pseudo-science to “prey on and manipulate the most vulnerable”.
