The exhibits on display include a replica pair of trousers made from human skin, which were believed to bring great wealth to the wearer.

The gory garment is exhibited alongside a model of a sorcerer's cottage, and a milk-harvesting demon which was rumoured to suckle from local farmers' cows.

Legend has it that witches conjured up the demons by wrapping wool around the rib bone of a stolen corpse, with the demon then used to bring an endless supply of milk to the sorcerer.

The museum, curated by Sigurður Atlason, offers a window into many of the chilling practices of ancient witchcraft.

After opening in 2000, the museum has become a popular tourist attraction, where curious visitors can learn about the area's dark history.

In the past, a number of sorcerers were believed to live on the nearby Westfjords peninsula, where anyone accused of practising black magic would have been burned at the stake.

Today, around 15,000 visitors flock to the museum every year to witness the dark practices of Iceland's sorcerers.

Guests at the museum will learn that the fleshy trousers would have been made by digging up a consenting friend's corpse and flaying their skin from the waist down.

The skinny jeans could then be worn by the maker for good luck, with the trousers supposedly bringing fortune to anyone who completed the dark ritual.

Of course, witchcraft paranoia wasn't just a problem for terrified villagers overseas.

We recently revealed the chilling true story of one of England's oldest unsolved murders, which involved blood, gore and allegations of witchcraft closer to home.
