‘I have no words for this monstrosity’

Oscars 2017 worst dressed stars including Scarlett Johansson and Dakota Johnson are mocked by the internet in brutal memes

A-LISTERS stepped out on the red carpet for the 89th Academy Awards ceremony last night - but it wasn’t just the Oscars winners that caught fans' attention.

While some actresses dazzled with their amazing gowns, others made the worst dressed list.

Celebs dressed to impress to mark the prestigious event, but not all viewers were convinced by their fashion decisions.

Many took to Twitter to share memes mocking the red carpet style, and here were the most talked about outfits of the evening…

Not everyone was impressed when the Fifty Shades Darker actress stepped out in this Gucci gown.

While some compared it to Sandra Bullock in The Proposal, others commented that it looked like something from a horror series.

Scarlett Johansson opted for a sheer see-through pink gown nipped in with a black belt.

The 32-year-old won over some fans with her Azzedina Alaia frock, but dozens of people remarked that her outfit looked like a shower curtain.

Zac Posen designed this fairytale gown, which many believed made Leslie Mann look like a Disney Princess.

Some spectators weren't so enthralled by the garment though, as they admitted it looked a little too crumpled for the swanky event.

Janelle Monae

This was the Moonlight actress's first trip to the Academy Awards, and she was certainly a major talking point in this intricate Ellie Saab Couture dress.

Some spotted that the bottom half of the dress resembled something from the Tudor era, while others believed the bodice looked like birds pecking at Janelle's boobs.

Teresa Palmer

The 30-year-old Warm Bodies actress donned an ice blue Prada frock embellished with glittering sequins.

One fashion lover complained that the gown didn't show off the star's figure, and another harshly branded her the "worst dressed" of the whole event.

Style is a matter of taste, and it's safe to say this outfit divided opinion.

While many agree that the Pitch Perfect star looked incredible in the high-necked gown by Ralph & Rosso, some were adamant that she made a fashion blunder by looking like a retro Barbie doll.

It wasn't just the celebs' outfits that were under ridicule during the Oscars.

Golden Globe Award-winning Halle Berry looked gorgeous on the red carpet... but many cruelly mocked her over her hairstyle.

It's not just celebrity fashion that got everyone talking at last night's awards show.

Spectators were shocked when Warren Beatty announced the wrong winner for Best Picture.

Oscars fans flooded Twitter with memes after the jawdropping blunder, which saw Beatty announce La La Land had won instead of the real winner Moonlight.

And many viewers were left feeling completely baffled by Nicole Kidman's bizarre clapping.
