Are there any Open University free courses I can do?

THE Open University is an ideal way for busy people to return to learning, with courses designed to fit around life and work.

While the UK is under lockdown during the coronavirus pandemic, people are finding new ways to fill their time - including education courses that can be undertaken from home.

Are there any free courses?

There are over 1,000 free courses available.

Enrolment is free and the courses are available to start from the minute you sign up.

There are three learning levels to choose from: Introductory, Intermediate or Advanced.

With the free courses, known as OpenLearn programmes, you gain a certificate of participation upon completion.

And although the courses do not offer an official credit towards a qualification, it can help show your interest in a subject, a commitment to a change in career, or provide evidence of continuing professional development.

What is OpenLearn?

is a study programme designed to help people gain the skills needed to enter higher education.

It is an excellent way to get a feel for learning before taking on an undergraduate degree.

OpenLearn covers a range of subjects some of which are course materials used in foundation and degree programmes.

Other courses have been specially written for OpenLearn study.

How do I apply?

To apply for an OpenLearn course, participants are asked to

After creating an account, you can browse the wide range of courses on offer.

Some last for 6 hours, while some will take 24 hours of active study time to complete.

When you have found the right study programme, simply click "enrol now" and your course will be added to your profile.

You can add as many OpenLearn courses to your profile as you like.

You can also download all course materials - for use offline or on other devices - in word, PDF, Kindle or Epub2 formats.
