McDonald’s confirms its breakfast menu is back from June 24 – but only in limited restaurants

MCDONALD'S fans will be pleased to hear its popular breakfast menu will be back from June 24.

But it will only be available in "a small number" of restaurants to begin with as part of a trial, before being rolled-out nationwide in July if the test proves successful.

McDonald's says it will reveal the locations of the trial "nearer the time".

It follows the restaurant chain teasing fans last week by revealing its breakfast menu would return in a matter of weeks.

The news will be welcomed by fans who were left "heartbroken" to find newly reopened restaurants weren't offering its popular breakfast menu.

McDonald's began reopening its restaurants for deliveries and drive-thrus on May 20 after temporarily closing all 1,350 restaurants on March 23 due to coronavirus lockdown.

Restaurants aren't allowed to reopen until at least July 4, although they are able to offer takeaway services.

Many brands, including McDonald's, initially closed while they worked out how to do this safely.

Newly opened branches have fewer staff working at one time due to social distancing measures, so the chain has so far offered a reduced menu and shorter opening hours of 11am to 10pm.

But it seems McMuffins, bagels, and hash browns will be making a comeback soon.

Paul Pomroy, chief executive of McDonald’s UK and Ireland, said: "Throughout this reopening I’ve committed to our employees that we will only move forward to the next stage when I am confident we can do so while still enabling safe working.

"We’ll announce the restaurants involved in the breakfast trial nearer the time and thank you in advance to the teams participating in this test."

It comes as McDonald's plans to relaunch its "McDelivery" service at 500 restaurants from tomorrow.

Until now, it's been using Just Eat and Uber Eats to fulfil home delivery orders.

The fast-food chain has also today revealed it plans to reopen for walk-in takeaway and click and collect orders from June 17.

There are now 934 McDonald's branches open across the UK and Ireland. Use  to find your nearest.
