This is because shops in England and Wales larger than 280 square metres have to close on Easter Sunday and Christmas Day, under Government rules.

Sundays trading laws stipulate that any stores that choose to remain open can only do so for six consecutive hours between 10am and 6pm.

Sainsbury's stores in Scotland will open in line with Sunday trading hours.

The chain's 800 UK-wide convenience stores will remain open as usual from 7am to 10pm.

All supermarkets will be open as usual on Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Monday.

The chain's supermarkets will be open between 6am and 11pm on Good Friday, 6am to 11pm on Easter Saturday and 7am to 10pm on Easter Monday.

But these aren't guaranteed opening hours and will vary depending on the shop.

You should check out the Sainsbury's store locator on the supermarket's website to find out what your nearest branch's opening hours will be.

You can find the locator by typing "Sainsbury's store locator" into Google.

You then have to type in your town or postcode and it will draw up your closest store.

It comes after Aldi revealed that it will also pull down shutters on all 890 stores in England and Wales on Easter Sunday, April 9.

But branches will be open on Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Monday.

The discount store said branches will be open between 8am and 10pm on Good Friday, 8am to 10pm on Easter Saturday and 8am to 8pm on Easter Monday.

Again, these aren't guaranteed opening hours and will vary depending on the shop.

Beyond Sainsbury's and Aldi, the other major supermarkets haven't yet revealed their Easter opening hours.

But you should keep checking their websites in the run-up to the holidays for more details.

We'll let you know if other supermarkets and retailers are opening their stores over the long weekend as soon as we find out.

Other supermarkets pulled down the shutters across their stores last year while shops remained open on Good Friday, Easter Saturday and Easter Monday.

Co-op closed its larger outlets on Easter Sunday while the smaller convenience stores were operating normal opening hours.

Tesco closed its larger stores on Easter Sunday and reopened them on Easter Monday, although opening hours varied from branch to branch.

Larger Sainsbury's stores were open on Easter Sunday too but opening hours varied. All stores reopened as normal on Easter Monday.
