A TOTAL of 50 bank branches are set to close their doors in the coming weeks.

Several locations will pull down their shutters in England, Wales, and Scotland in a fresh blow to customers.

Among these are big-name lenders that are staples on the UK high street.

Barclays is shutting 23 branches while Lloyds is closing 12 and the Bank of Scotland (BoS) will be shuttering one, according to LINK which keeps track of any planned branch closures across the UK.

Meanwhile, 14 Halifax branches will close.

It comes after hundreds of building society and bank branches closed their doors for good over the past year.

SHUTTERED

Two major high street banks confirm 48 new closures from this summer

So far in 2024, 337 sites have closed or are forecast to shut.

Last month, 56 branches pulled down the shutters for the last time.

Most recently, two major high street banks are set to close 48 bank branches between them in a fresh blow for the high street.

NatWest is pulling down the shutters on 47 locations in the coming months, with RBS set to close one permanently.

What you can do if your local bank branch closes

The vast majority of banking customers are moving online and don't need a physical branch as much as before.

But any closures can be an issue for others, particularly elderly people in rural areas who don't have access to the internet.

However, if your local branch is set to close, or has recently, you have some options.

You can carry out most basic banking tasks at your nearest Post Office.

You won't be able to apply for a loan or open a new bank account at once though.

You can find your nearest Post Office branch by using the locator tool on its website.

Meanwhile, many banks offer a mobile banking service - where they bring a bus to your area offering services you can usually get at a physical branch.
