"Brought this shelf from B&M in Peterborough town centre for £1. It’s going in my daughter's room," they wrote.

However, it's worth keeping in mind that the shelf may not be £1 in your local branch, so check before you get to the till.

Retailers tend to reduce items like this to clear stock in specific branches.

So it's not guaranteed that you'll sniff out the same bargain that other punters do.

Stock may also vary at different branches, so it's worth checking ahead.

Always remember to shop around when buying something like this as you might find it cheaper elsewhere.

Why B&M is so good for bargains

SENIOR Digital Writer, Abby Wilson, who loves a shopping trip to B&M, has shared her thoughts on why the chain is the place to go for bargain buys...

WE all love B&M (especially me). It's a one-stop-shop where you can nab all things from gardenware and homeware, to snacks and cleaning supplies.

Not only do we love the variety B&M offers (because after all, who can be bothered to go to five different shops anymore?!), but the prices are brilliant too.

If you're on a budget, B&M is definitely worth vising - as it's full of cheap bargain buys.

Not only will you find affordable items, but B&M is full of dupes too - so if you're after beauty buys without the designer price tag, you'll need to take a trip.

Similar to this, the chain are eager to get on trends - so if you see something in H&M Home but are on a budget and can't justify the price, give it a few weeks and you'll probably spot something similar on the shelves in your local B&M.

How does the B&M app work?

B&M also has a scanning app to help shoppers get money off their purchases.

The tool allows shoppers to discover discounted items before they've been reduced by staff.

The scanner will check if the item's price is cheaper than advertised on the shop shelf.

The scanner is completely free - you just need to download the B&M app.

Shoppers have saved hundreds of pounds a year by using the handy app.

Another tip to try is head to your local B&M branch at 10am on a Wednesday to score the best savings.

A former manager for one of the stores said this is when staff slash items to as little as 10p to clear stock and make way for new items.

You can find your nearest B&M branch via the retailer's store locator tool online.

How to save money at B&M

Shoppers have saved hundreds of pounds a year by using B&M's scanner app.

The scanner lets you see if an item's price is cheaper than advertised on the shop floor label.

Products that are typically discounted are seasonal items and old stock that B&M is trying to shift.

The app is free to download off the B&M Stores mobile app via Google Play or the Apple App Store.

According to one ex-B&M manager, you'll want to visit your local branch at 10am on a Wednesday too.

Here's how you can join the B&M bargain hunt:

  • Download the B&M app for free on any smartphone with an App Store or Google Play.
  • Once you've installed it on your device, click on the option labelled "more" on the bottom, right-hand side of the app home page.
  • You'll then find an option that says "barcode scanner". Click on this and you'll open a camera screen.
  • Use the camera to hover over the barcode of the product you wish to check.
  • If the price comes up as lower, take it to the cash desk and it will automatically scan at the lower price.
  • You don't need to sign up to the B&M app to use the barcode scanner.
