Skittles Citrus is hitting supermarket and corner shop shelves across the UK, it has been confirmed to The Sun.

The bags contain five new flavours: Orange, Lemon, Lime, Mandarin and Blood Orange.

They will be sold as 109g and 136g packs.

Mars says they will be available at big supermarkets, grocery stores and corner shops across the country from today.

However it looks like some small corner shops have been selling them already.

Some shop owners posted photos of the new snack on social media, with packs selling for £1.

Shoppers seem to be keen to get their hands on the new flavour, with one person writing: "I've wanted this my entire life."

Another said: "Where are they selling them they look delicious."

A third added: "I need these and I need these now."

This is the first Skittles flavour to launch since the brand released its Skittles Giants Gooey early last year.

Companies often try out new flavours to excite shoppers, and Skittles' senior brand manager Florence McGivern said flavour experts had been perfecting the new snack for "months".

"We know our shoppers are always looking for new, bold flavours, and citrus is the perfect way to bring something fresh and exciting to our Skittles lineup," she said.

The Sun recently chatted to insiders at Mars and Walkers about how they come up with new flavours - and why other products get discontinued. You can read more about that here.

What other sweet treats have launched recently?

This isn't the only sweet snack that has hit supermarket shelves in recent months.

Asda shoppers spotted a new Squashies flavour ahead of Valentine's Day.

They looked like the classic foam Squashies but with the romantic messages and emojis you find on Love Hearts sweets.

Meanwhile B&M shoppers found three brand new flavours in the Poppets Hot Chocolate Sachets range.

The Minty, Salted Caramel and Orangy flavours sent snack finders into a frenzy.

Retro sweet lovers were also stunned to find an iconic sweet from the 80s had made a return.

Opal Fruits, which were rebranded as Starburst in 1998, can now be found at major supermarkets again.

The individually wrapped chewy squares are up for grabs in Sainsbury's, Tesco, and Morrisons stores for shoppers to enjoy a taste of nostalgia.

Here are some other discontinued items our team would love to see come back...

Here are our top discontinued snacks - including picks from our team...

Fabulous Bakin' Boys Cupcakes

Consumer reporter Emily Mee says: "It was always a good day when I spotted these in my lunch box at school. Putting a layer of chocolate on top of a vanilla cupcake is a simple idea but a genius one. I would pay good money to try these again..."

Ready Salted Chipsticks

Head of Consumer Tara Evans says: "Ready Salted Chipsticks. Why did they get rid of this classic flavour? Some people think ready salted is boring - but why mess with a classic? I often feel taunted when I see the salt and vinegar version in shops."

Coco Pops Rocks

Consumer news editor Ellie Smitherman says: "No idea whose bright idea it was to get rid of these, but it was possibly one of the worst moves in cereal history. Coco Pops Straws, too! If I had known the last time I'd have one would be the last time, I'd have savoured it far more."

Tooti Frooties

Senior consumer reporter James Flanders says: "Tooty Frooties were a chewy blast of childhood joy. Scrapped after 50 years, they were Britain's alternative to Skittles - and in an age obsessed with nostalgia, bringing them back just makes sense. Lots of dupes can be picked up at budget supermarkets but they just don’t taste the same."

White Maltesers

While the milk chocolate version is still going strong, White Chocolate Maltesers were pulled from shelves in 2014. Mars said it was a "difficult decision" at the time, and fans still post comments on its social media pages calling for it to come back.

Heinz Toast Toppers

Out of all the discontinued products, this is one of the ones we see the most calls for to come back. The creamy cans came in a variety of flavours like chicken and mushroom or cheese and ham. They were binned in 2015 after delighting shoppers for decades.

Cadbury Spira

Another of the regular calls we see is for the Cadbury Spira to return. The chocolate featured twin bars in each pack which were formed into a spiral shape, with six hollow tubes running through each one.
