Aldi brings back huge 16oz rump steak for less than £5 – but you’ll need to be quick

The huge steaks will hit the shelves again from Thursday October 19 but you'll need to be quick as stock is likely to be limited

ALDI is bringing back its huge rump steak after sell-out success last time.

The budget supermarket's so-called "Big Daddy" - a 16oz or 454g British Rump steak - will cost meat-lovers just £4.99.

Aldi says the steak - which costs less than £5 - is the biggest one available on the market

It is one of the biggest on the market, according to the retailer.

Aldi claims the huge cut of meat is also 100g heavier and 20 per cent cheaper than Tesco’s Finest Rump Steak, which costs £5.95 for 350g.

Sainsbury's 21-day matured rump steak is cheaper than Aldi's at £2.80 per unit but it's also much smaller weighing just 225g.

The rump is a lean steak made up of several different muscles.

According to the budget store, it's best served thick-cut and cooked over a very high heat, with a generous resting time.

The steaks will hit the shelves again on Thursday October 19 but you'll need to be quick as stock is likely to be limited.

This is because the range is part of Aldi's Specialbuys.

This means the items are sold on a first come, first served basis and "once they're gone, they're gone."

Aldi first launched the huge steaks in June for Father's Day and brought them back again in August ahead of the Bank holiday weekend - the cuts were a sell out success on both occasions.

When one of the supermarket's latest Specialbuy - a mega-cheap Brauhn 4k 49inch LE TV for £320 - went on sale last month, the Sun Online revealed that the stores with the largest amount of stock had just six TVs in stock when their doors opened at 8am.

The relaunch of Aldi's "Big Daddy" comes as German budget stores Aldi and Lidl are continuing to gain ground on the UK’s big four supermarkets, luring in thousands of cash-strapped shoppers looking for bargains.

The budget stores have even been given the stamp of approval by posh lifestyle magazine Tatler last week.

Meat from both budget supermarket chains have made the list, with Aldi's Specially Selected 30-day aged fillet steak costing just over a fiver.

Lidl's Deluxe Oak & Applewood smoke Scottish salmon slices also made the posh nosh list for just £2.99, proving that anyone can live the lifestyle of the rich and famous when they know where to bag a bargain.
