URGENT RECALL

Ikea recalls sweets due to mice infestation

The flat pack furniture store is recalling packets of its Godis Paskkyckling marshmallows due to a possible mice infestation which makes it unsafe to eat

IKEA is recalling packets of marshmallows after mice were discovered at the warehouse where they're made.

The Food Standards Agency issued the recall for all of the 100g packets that have been sold in 2018.

The sweets have a best before date between October 23 2018 and January 26 2019.

If you have any of the packets at home, you can check the best before date on the back of the packaging.

Customers who have bought the marshmallows are urged not to eat them.

Instead, you should return the packet for a full refund, even if you don't have the receipt any more.

In the notice, Ikea said: "We see this recall as a necessary step to live up to our high-quality food safety standards and we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause."

The Swedish DIY store is famous for its flat pack furniture, but it is also known for its in-store food hall.

Customers often compliment the store for the Swedish meatballs dish they serve on site, and this week they announced that they will soon be serving a vegetarian hot dog.

Lorena Lourido, Country IKEA Food Manager said: "We are aware of the discovery of mice at the production site and as a result products may have been contaminated.

"Food safety is a top priority at IKEA and we are now conducting a further investigation with the supplier. As a precautionary measure, we are recalling Godis Paskkyckling marshmallow candy 100g."

An investigation by the Sun Online found that food recalls have gone up by 44 per cent in three years.

The government is to set up a new body to help protect people from faulty goods and recalls – in a victory for The Sun.

Ministers have listened to our demand to increase protection for consumers from unsafe products.
