The lamps are made of frosted glass so there is a risk of it smashing if it fell onto a hard surface.

And as the lamps weigh 3kg, they could seriously injure someone if it fell while a person was standing below.

You can return the lamps to any store and receive a full refund, and you will not need proof of purchase even if it is more than two years old.

Ikea said in a statement that some lamps have fallen off, customers have told them.

How to dismantle the lamps safely and return it for a full refund

IKEA has issued instructions on how to dismantle the lamps safely.

You should turn off the lights, and pull out the lamp's movable metal arm.

Ikea told The Sun that 59,697 of the lamps have been sold in the UK that could be affected.

You should then remove the lamp shade while continuing to pull the movable arm out.

The date stamps are a four digit number on the back of the ceiling lamp, which starts with the year followed by the week it was made - such as '1624'.

The lamps that need to be returned will have numbers 1625 through to 1744 on the back.

If you have one, return it to an Ikea store for a full refund. You won't need proof of purchase.

The affected lamps are ones which have been bought since August 1, 2016.
