The electric Porsche owner bought his motor two years ago and has seen thousands of pounds go down the drain since.

Lee, who is from Nottingham, said the tyres on EVs would wear down quicker - and for many Brits it could break the bank.

Lee told The Sun Online that tyres on an electric motor are a lot more expensive and could see you forking out more because they wear down quicker.

He said: "The thing that is different and will actually cost you more is tyres.

"Nobody is talking about the fact that tyres cost you more on an electric car because you get through them quicker and they cost more per tyre.

"Two rear tyres on a Porsche, after travelling around 11,000 miles, [has made me] £667.20 lighter.

"I'm getting through tyres two to three times quicker than when I had a petrol car.

"I used to get around 40,000 miles out of them.

"It's just getting through them really quickly and nobody is telling you that, I've not seen it anywhere.

"Nobody told me that when I bought the car.

"Be very careful when looking at buying a new car as all car dealerships are now trained to up sell you into an Electric Car and making it sound cheaper to run.

"After owning an EV for two years I can tell you there are a lot of hidden costs such as tyres and public charging.

"Don't listen to them and do your own research as if you want a car for anything other than running to the local shops then an EV is NOT for you.

"They work out way more expensive in the long run and your car will depreciate faster than a proper Petrol or Diesel Car."

EV tyres have to have a reinforced sidewall to handle the extra weight of the battery.

If it didn't have this support, the tyres could bulge or burst.

Treads area also designed to grip the road better because EVs can accelerate and brake much faster than average cars.

And they are made from a completely different type of rubber compound to create a quieter sound.

However, supporters of electric vehicles have said their benefits, such as being better for the environment, outweigh potential battery woes.

Other drawcards include studies suggesting they could save drivers money in the long run - including on energy bills thanks to a new government scheme introduced this year.

The  says EVs have lower servicing and maintenance costs and are cheaper to refuel than petrol and diesel vehicles.
